Abstract Preview

The Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA) was implemented to modernize Nigerian agriculture. This study evaluated its impact on food crop production. Secondary data on crop production, inputs, and farmer income from 2010-2018 were analyzed alongside primary data from 300 farmers across six states. Results showed that during ATA implementation (2011-2015), rice production increased by 35%, cassava by 28%, and maize by 22%. Input supply improved with fertilizer distribution increasing by 150%. However, small farmers reported limited access to program benefits. Post-ATA, production growth slowed, suggesting sustainability challenges. The study concludes that ATA achieved partial success but recommends inclusive implementation and sustainable program design for future interventions.

Research Objectives

  • 1To assess changes in food crop production during ATA
  • 2To evaluate input supply and access under ATA
  • 3To analyze farmer income changes
  • 4To recommend improvements for agricultural transformation programs

Suggested Methodology

Mixed methods combining secondary data analysis with survey of 300 farmers across six states
