Abstract Preview

Rural poverty remains pervasive among farming households in Nigeria. This study identified determinants of poverty among rural farming households in Adamawa State. Data were collected from 280 farming households using structured questionnaires. The Foster-Greer-Thorbecke poverty indices and logistic regression were used for analysis. Results showed a poverty incidence of 68%, poverty depth of 0.32, and severity of 0.18 among farming households. Factors significantly increasing poverty probability included large household size, lack of education, limited land access, and absence of non-farm income. Protective factors included access to credit, diversified income sources, and membership in farmer organizations. The study recommends family planning education, improved education access, and income diversification support.
