Abstract Preview

Climate change poses significant threats to agricultural productivity in Nigeria. This study examined the effect of climate change on maize production in Kaduna State, focusing on farmers' perceptions and adaptation strategies. Data were collected from 300 maize farmers using structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. Results showed that 89% of farmers perceived changes in rainfall patterns and temperature over the past decade. Maize yields reportedly declined by an average of 28% over ten years. Common adaptation strategies included changing planting dates (67%), adopting drought-resistant varieties (45%), and diversifying crops (38%). Access to extension services and farm size significantly influenced adoption of adaptation strategies.

Research Objectives

  • 1To assess farmers' perception of climate change in Kaduna State
  • 2To determine the effect of climate change on maize yield
  • 3To identify adaptation strategies employed by maize farmers
  • 4To analyze factors influencing adoption of adaptation strategies

Suggested Methodology

Descriptive survey design with multi-stage sampling of 300 maize farmers across four agricultural zones in Kaduna State
