Abstract Preview
The Fadama III Project was designed to increase the income of rural farmers through improved agricultural practices. This study assessed its impact on rice production in Niger State, the largest rice-producing state in Nigeria. Using a quasi-experimental design, 150 Fadama beneficiaries were compared with 150 non-beneficiaries. Results showed that Fadama beneficiaries had significantly higher rice yields (4.2 tons/ha versus 2.8 tons/ha) and income (67% higher). Beneficiaries had better access to improved seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation facilities. However, challenges included delayed disbursement of funds and inadequate coverage. The study concludes that the Fadama approach is effective and recommends expansion and improved implementation.
Research Objectives
- 1To compare rice yields between Fadama beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries
- 2To assess the effect of Fadama III on farmer income
- 3To identify benefits received by Fadama participants
- 4To evaluate challenges in Fadama III implementation
Suggested Methodology
