Abstract Preview

Agricultural cooperatives are important institutions for smallholder farmer development. This study assessed cooperative society performance in Osun State. Data were collected from 25 cooperatives and 200 member farmers. Performance indicators included service provision, financial management, governance, and member satisfaction. Results showed that 68% of cooperatives provided credit services, 52% facilitated input access, and 44% assisted with marketing. Member satisfaction averaged 3.2 on a 5-point scale. High-performing cooperatives were characterized by regular meetings, transparent financial management, and educated leadership. Challenges included inadequate capital, poor member commitment, and limited government support. Recommendations include capacity building for cooperative leaders and improved access to cooperative financing.
