Abstract Preview
Agricultural extension services play a crucial role in transferring technology to farmers. This study evaluated extension service delivery to cassava farmers in Imo State. Data were collected from 180 cassava farmers and 30 extension agents using structured questionnaires. Findings revealed that only 42% of farmers had contact with extension agents in the past year, with an average of 2.3 visits per farmer. Farmers who received extension services had 35% higher yields than those without access. Major constraints included inadequate number of extension agents (ratio of 1:3,500 farmers), poor funding, and lack of transportation. The study recommends increased funding for extension services and adoption of ICT-based extension approaches.
Research Objectives
- 1To assess the frequency of extension contact with cassava farmers
- 2To evaluate the effect of extension services on cassava productivity
- 3To identify constraints to effective extension service delivery
- 4To recommend strategies for improving extension services
Suggested Methodology
Survey research design with stratified random sampling of 180 farmers and purposive sampling of 30 extension agents
