Abstract Preview
Irrigation farming is essential for year-round crop production in Nigeria's semi-arid regions. This study analyzed factors affecting irrigation adoption in Kebbi State. Data were collected from 220 farmers in irrigated and rain-fed farming communities. Logistic regression analysis revealed that farm size, access to credit, distance to water source, extension contact, and education significantly influenced irrigation adoption. Adopters earned 78% more annual farm income than non-adopters. Major constraints included high cost of irrigation equipment (67%), lack of technical knowledge (54%), and unreliable water supply (43%). The study recommends subsidized irrigation equipment and farmer training programs.
