Abstract Preview

Proper farm record keeping is essential for farm management decisions yet is often neglected by Nigerian farmers. This study analyzed record keeping practices among poultry farmers in Ogun State. Data were collected from 150 poultry farmers using structured questionnaires. Results revealed that only 45% of farmers kept any form of records, with feed records (78%), mortality records (65%), and sales records (82%) being most common among record keepers. Financial records were least kept (34%). Record keepers had 28% higher profit margins than non-record keepers. Education, farm size, and access to training significantly influenced record keeping. Challenges included perceived complexity, time constraints, and lack of perceived benefits. Simplified record keeping tools and training are recommended.
