Abstract Preview

Secure land tenure is considered essential for agricultural investment. This study examined the effect of land tenure on investment and productivity in Enugu State. Data were collected from 200 farmers with different tenure arrangements: owned land (35%), family land (45%), and rented land (20%). Results showed that farmers with secure tenure (ownership) invested 67% more in land improvement practices such as irrigation, fencing, and soil conservation. Productivity was significantly higher on owned land (2.8 tons/ha) compared to family land (2.3 tons/ha) and rented land (1.9 tons/ha). Tenure security significantly influenced adoption of long-term investments. The study recommends land reforms that provide secure tenure to encourage agricultural investment.
